27 Also from the appearance of His waist and upward I saw, as it were, the color of amber with the appearance of fire all around within it; and from the appearance of His waist and downward I saw, as it were, the appearance of fire with brightness all around. 28 Like the appearance of a rainbow in a cloud on a rainy day, so was the appearance of the brightness all around it. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD.

– “I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.”

When life seems like destruction and earthquakes around you… You just might be on the brink of a victory, a turn-around, something phenomenally fantastically divinely miraculous is about to happen to you

“These are brith pangs”… The rare places in the Bible where (if you have a good Bible) there are quotations of Christ is in red, these are important. For two reasons. One Christ wasn’t here long so He actually doesn’t get to say much that is quoted verbatim or what we have of whatever He said that is recorded is quite small in terms of Him when He walked the earth. So I would pay serious stop-chill-a-secondf attention to His quotes if I were you. The second reason is, if you believe Jesus was God, then well, if He gets quoted about something, its very likely that whatever is quoted in red is likely to contain a spiritual power that you would be ill-advised to ignore or take for granted. In fact, if I were you, any quotes you come across of Christ in the Bible, I’d read with expectation and engage the Holy Spirit asking “Lord this is a direct quote, there is power in it. I expect something powerful, Your glory to affect my life because I’m reading this. Help me receive it!”

So end of the world is foretold, and as we draw closer to it, Christ speaks of a time of wars and rumors of wars, earth quakes famine and disease and general all around mayhem. Then, He has the divine audacity to call it “birth” pangs instead of death throes……( the british are very interesting people, they come up with colloquialisms like the last kicks of dying horse and such like, ah the queens tongue at times is colourful).

My take…when things look bad, when the enemy comes upon us like a flood, Jehovah will raise up a standard. You’re victory is (could be) around the corner. When the odds are against you. When the situation is so bleak it feels like the end. Even if all around you is contradictory to any glimmer of hope or potential turn around, even when all your senses are screaming its over, and that’s it… This scripture is telling us…a re-birth is coming. A newness. A miracle is heading your way. And its so close its not even coming at you, its growing inside you and is apart of you. That God is so close that He has literally planted something divine in you that will soon be born. It could be hope. It could be an idea. It could be an untapped talent or gift that the world needs. Or it could simply be a re-awakening of a spiritual strength or revival of your faith that you used to have.

No matter how you look at it. The convulsions the labour pains the pangs of your life means something good, something wonderful something God is coming your way and in fact is actually already hear. Look up to the hills, stop crying in depression with your eyes closed. Look up!

So you’re wondering, all this time, all this hurt, this pain this waiting, this confusion and frustration. You’re probably thinking to yourself “What is this guy going on about… How can he take such a simple verse and interpret it this way.” He must be mad. Well I guess I am…MAD that is. I’m just trying to Make A Difference in your life. Giving you hope. Now Biblically like any good scholar you have to draw your conclusion across a number of places within the Bible looking for that common thread. You have to look for proof from other places within the Bible. Investigate.

Here’s proof?

Moses. Prince of egypt. Joint Chief of staff of the Egyptian miliatry. Kills a guy. Flees for his life. Wanders in the desert. Gets lost. Weak tired hungry. A nobody at the rear-end of nowhere. Stumbles upon some girls being harassed at a well. He helps them. Family takes him in. From prince to shepherd. – He had everything. He lost everything….. (drumroll wait for it…) Then comes the burning bush then talking to God face to face. Then heroe of a nation.

David, shepherd boy, anointed king, runs from cave to cave to survive being killed by Saul (his mentor), ends up even fighting on the side of his country’s arch enemies as a hired sword. A nameless, honourless, mercenary available to the highest bidder, going to wars and risking his life for nothing but gold and food on his table. Sometimes he had neither. Followed by a band of men made up of the dregs of society. The cast outs. The havenots. Then what. He becomes the greatest king Israel ever had. The “benchmark” both in the eyes of men and nations around him. The penultimate warrior. A wise man. Plato’s philosopher king. Autocrat yet loved by everyone. Stern harsh justice but a man of the people and boasted over by God Himself. “If there were anyone on earth whose heart feels like mine, the way He feels, His empathy, His anger, His love, His compassion, His sorrow….it is this man David”.

You decide…

Here’s more encouragement.

Some of these people ended up in bad places by simply being in the right place at the wrong time. No fault of their own. Victims of circumstance.

Some of these people ended up in bad places because of the choices they made. Not victims, but perpetrators. Mea culpa…  We chose to slip. We decide to slide. We plot our own downfall. We walk right into trouble of our own making.

But God shows mercy and grace to either one. That’s the whole meaning of grace anyway. God shows love towards us all with impartiality. He renames Jacob. He unleashes Paul. He raises up Peter. He gives Himself the lineage of Ruth a foreigner and a heathen who dared to believe.

Do you dare?

Next time you’re going through stuff. Make a decision to believe their birth pangs.

I’ll leave you with something Uncle Vic said to me last week.

“See God is light. And He is so powerful! He’s so close to you at the worst times, and He’s so bright! Sometimes, you get blinded because the light is so bright. Maybe…you need to realise that if you’re blind … Maybe God is so close that He’s right next to you. You’re miracle is closer than you think”

So… Why did Jesus say,… Don’t worry…. These are birth pangs :-D. Isn’t it amazing the a “planet” an object of rock and sand and water and such can tell when God’s about to do something? What about you and me? LOL! Why is it the earth, the planet, granite, clay, earth and sand know when God’s about to move and we don’t? Or do we?

Receive it.

Shalom on you and yours
